Not dead yet

While posting my Hans Matheson picspam last night, I noticed that I hadn't updated my LJ in three weeks ... real life has been unbearably busy. So, here a general update on interesting and not interesting stuff.

University: I'm finally done with all my exams. :) The exams were, obviously, the reason I didn't update in the past few weeks. I already got the result from my French linguistics exam, I passed it with a pretty good grade, yay! Don't know about the others yet, but I'm fairly sure that I've passed them all, not with excellent, but with acceptable grades. I hope.

Inglourious Basterds: having another big writer's block. I really want to write more, but I feel like my Landa/Hellstrom-fics are getting tediously repetitive. I love the pairing so much, and I'd like to do something new with them instead of repeating the same old ideas I've already used in my other fics. It's depressing. Maybe I was just incapable of writing because of the exams and it will get better now. I should reconsider the whole idea of Landa actually being Hellstrom's father ... mhm.

Sherlock Holmes: that movie has eaten my brain. I absolutely loved it, and the slash is too good to be true. I'm not likely to write any Holmes/Watson or RDJudesie - I love both pairings, but I'm not good at writing fic for popular pairings, I always feel like I'd be stealing someone's ideas. However, I also ship Blackwood/Coward and, since I have really turned into a shameless RPS fan, Hans/Mark, and I have a few ideas for both pairings. I've started working on a little B/C-ficlet and will hopefully finish it before I go to Moscow, and I'm also playing around with a Hans/Mark plot bunny.

The Tudors: I almost finished watching season 3, and I can really recommend it. Sure, it's full of historical inaccuracies. Sure, it's full of gratuitous sex scenes. Sure, the real Henry VIII was not even half as hot as Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Still, if you can live with all that, it's an enjoyable show, imo. I really like JRM's portrayal of Henry - the looks may not fit, but he plays the self-centred, arrogant, megalomaniac king pretty well. Henry Cavill as Charles Brandon is really great as well. Cardinal Wolsey made me squee throughout the entire first season, before Thomas Cromwell took over in season 2 and 3 and made me squee even harder, he's just that cool. Also, season 2 features our dearest Hans Matheson as Archbishop Cranmer. If the really good cast weren't reason enough to watch this, the slash would be. I have no idea if there is a big Tudors fandom, I have to look for it. I need some Cromwell/Cranmer in my life (actually, I need some Cromwell/everyone). All those kinky robes and boots and chains ... erm, yes, getting a bit distracted here. Damn, this makes it sound like the slashiness is the only reason to watch this show, but it isn't. Really. If you can forgive the historical inaccuracies and see it as entertainment, not history, it's really fun.

Other movie recs: Watch Stardust. Now. It's a really sweet, beautiful fantasy movie, the kind of old-fashioned, pre-LOTR fantasy. It's just the thing you want to watch when you've been through a few stressful weeks and need something to relax and feel happy. Only criticism: the awesome bad guy doesn't win, unsurprisingly. The awesome bad guy, btw, is played by Mark Strong and made my head explode. Several times. Might picspam that too.

... enough blabla for today. Will work on my Blackwood/Coward-ficlet now, so I can soon post something that's actually interesting to read. :)

Yes, Stardust reminded me what fantasy can be like without huge armies. Not that I don't love stuff like LOTR, but it was a very nice change. I really only watched the movie for Mark Strong, but I didn't regret it. ^^

Thanks. ^^ The other results will probably take a bit longer, my French linguistics teacher was just surprisingly fast. Usually we have to wait several weeks until we get the results.
