Firefly is ... erm, probably the best science-fiction-show EVER. And has unfortunately only one season (and a movie). :( It's dirty and realistic, not as happy-go-lucky as Star Trek was before DS9 (and I'm saying this as a Trekkie), not as fairy-tale as Star Wars ... The main character is no annoying hero, but actually pretty much of an anti-hero, the ENTIRE cast is likeable (yes, including the female characters), and it's so making fun of the average sci-fi clichés. Just DL/buy it and watch it. You will probably spend the next two days doing nothing else once you get started. I believe I watched 10 of the 14 episodes in one day because I couldn't stop. :D
