Poor you. :/ I watched England-USA in a nice bar around here, and of course I was rooting for England, and then some idiots somewhere cheered when the USA scored, and I was like, "what's wrong with them?"

Of course, you can basically do what you want and nobody knows if you get it 'right' or not. But the difference is: a minor fictional character doesn't really exist, and people usually accept your interpretation gladly because there's no canon for them anyway. But with real people ... you know that they're somewhere out there, and you want to get them right, even though you know you can't, and you're afraid that they will seem completely OOC, never mind that other fans don't know more about them than you. It just feels different. At least for me it makes writing RPS rather difficult. Rationally I know that I can do pretty much what I want to do, especially for celebrities who are very private about their lives, but it's still very hard to write something that feels right. Does that make any sense to you?

I was actually disappointed that there were so few football secrets ... I really expected a lot more. :( Well, there are some good fics, but not that many. Often for pairings I don't care about, or just crappy unrealistic lovey-dovey fluff with no depth and angst, or badly written porn. The really good fics, with characterisation and angst and awesome porn, are very rare.
