Well, that's great, no? It means that next time Heydrich has no time to slap Schellchen around, Schellchen can go to one of the other guys on the list. Even though it wouldn't be the same, of course ... because nobody can replace his beloved CHEEEEEF. ;) (icon of Mark's hands, to fit the subject)

Come on, that's unfair. I've read most of your slash fic. Or at least quite a few. I actually finally wanted to read your student-Dieterchen fic a while ago; I might just do that later today. For some reason I always think of stuff like that when I'm busy, not when I'm online and have time. As for the others ... well, I think I told you that I just wasn't a big fan of your Dieterchen characterisation in the one fic (it was Silent Night, I believe), which is, again, not a real criticism but just a personal preference. As for the Hellstrom/Hicox one, I guess I overlooked it. I don't really know, I always have twenty tabs open with fics I need to read. It's like you with movies you download - I think, "oh, I need to read this!" and then I end up reading other things, or doing completely different stuff. It's nothing personal. I'm always behind on my fic-reading.

Exactly. Some slash pairings are basically canon (Holmes/Watson), others are so obvious that they could just as well be canon, and sometimes, as you said, two characters are just made for each other (Landa/Hellstrom, or my favourite Forgotten Realms pairing Entreri/Zaknafein - they never met in canon, Zaknafein actually died before Entreri was born (which is not that much of a problem in a fantasy world), but their characters just fit perfectly together). And sometimes it's just fun to figure out how two apparently incompatible characters could work together - not for the admittedly hot porn, but for the characterisation. The porn is just the cherry on top. My first multi-chaptered fic was an apparently insane attempt to bring two characters together who hated each other's guts in canon - and not even in the love-hate-way, but pure hate. Unsurprisingly, it all ended tragically with everyone alone and bitter.

But I think it's not only about the characters themselves, but also about the way their shippers see and write them. There are some het pairings that could probably make for amazing fics (I'm talking about canon characters, not OFCs), but many of their shippers don't seem to bother with making them interesting. Many of my slash pairings are not obviously made for each other in canon, but I always try to create a story for them in which their relationship makes sense. Many het shippers don't seem to bother with that. Even if they don't torture us with Mary Sues. Their only explanation is usually, "they have such chemistry, they obviously belong together!" If a slash fan says that, people tell them their slash goggles are on too tight.

Speaking of that ... I generally don't like OCs. I still can't believe I wrote an OC myself once, and one I adore on top of that. But OCs that are really just self-insert? *insert puking*

Again, since you like interseting het pairings ... you should definitely have a look at Firefly, if you've never seen it before. Not only is it possibly the best sci-fi show ever, but it also features several interesting, complex female characters and therefore interesting shipping possibilities. And tons of slash possibilities as well, mind you. ^^ And the original "I'll be in my bunk." It always cracks me up to see everyone using that phrase without knowing where it comes from.
