linndechir: (baratheon)

I usually don't even like onions.

So we just had this totally mad, huge discussion over at [livejournal.com profile] game_thrones . It was like a few hours of mad trolling and venting and raging and rambling and it was awesome. I realised that I am not the only person who thinks Stannis would be an awesome king. I'm probably still fairly alone in worshiping the very ground he walks on (well, me and Davos), but there is more Stannis love out there than I would have expected. This is good. I still don't get half the popular opinions in this fandom.

I just realised how weird an entry this is after, what, three months of nothing from me.Sorry. ASOIAF and King Stannis The Awesome have eaten my brain. That and real life being a bitch. A more normal entry might come at some point in the future. It might only consist of random fangirling and quotes, though. 'cos Stannis is the man who blessed the world with sentences like, "You chatter like magpies, and with less sense" and "The law should be made of iron, not pudding." You need to be Stannis Baratheon to say "pudding" in a terrifying way.

And to think I used to like her. Huh. But with each book I feel more and more like she should just GTFO.

Hello! It's been awhile, lol.

Stannis is awesome, and Stannis/Davos is canon imo. Disbelievers can gtfo.

It has, and I've missed you, and I'm so happy you share this fandom! Yay!

Thank you for reminding me why I like you so much. :D THEY SO ARE CANON!!! Mr. "I trust none of them as I trust you" and Mr. "It is your tongue to do with as you please"

I don't really follow the comms but HOW IS THAT NOT A POPULAR OPINION? IT'S SO BLATANT EVEN MY MOTHER WHO NOTICES NOTHING WAS LIKE "SO, STANNIS AND DAVOS ARE A THING RIGHT?"

I missed you too, bb, and ASOIAF is amazing, everyone should love it.

Your mother reads those books? And she notices the big love story of Westeros? Your mother is awesome.

But, yeah, I don't get how anyone can NOT notice it. Or how, if they notice it, they can NOT care about the epic love between these two. But then again, I don't get either how anyone can NOT want Stannis on the Iron Throne and everyone else bending their knee to the most awesome king ever. People are weird like that.

I'm still only in the middle of ADWD because real life is very busy, and I want to make ADWD last instead of devouring it in two days, and because it's full of people who piss me off. But in general? Yeah, ASOIAF is amazing. Even though the fandom comes up with weird things.

I'm so far behind. I got my mother into the series so she pretty much stole the books from me while I went on a x-men: first class binge, so I have to catch up. Still on ASoS, by ADWD is staring at me, tempting me to open it.

I would love to see Stannis on the throne, but I get the feeling that no one's going to be left alive to sit the throne when GRRM's through. He seems like the type to just end with everyone dead.

Ah, okay, good to know, before I spoil you.

Stannis is personality- and story-wise too much of a tragic hero to end up on top in the end. I honestly think it would be the best outcome for all of Westeros, but I doubt that this series will have a good outcome. Though I do hope more for winter coming and everyone dying rather than Daenerys saving the world with her awesomeness. *eyeroll*

i think dany is learning that she CANNOT do that. isn't that the point of her povs in ADWD?

as for stannis, i think you're right: he is his own worst enemy. and that's saying something since i fear melisandre will be a pretty big enemy as well! as i mentioned in my first post here, i just finished reading him. and they are in a difficult situation and stannis just doesn't address it. as if ignoring it will make it go away. i can only imagine what is going through the minds of his men.

i think his biggest problem is his lack of people skills. which makes me think that if it looks like he is even remotely close to getting the iron throne, he will be removed. don't forget, all the players are not warriors. lots of deaths in kingslanding occur without a blade.

I don't see Daenerys learning anything. Maybe she sees that she can't do that, but that doesn't keep her from thinking that she still wlil try at some point.

Melisandre IS his worst enemy, even more so than himself. I don't trust that woman as far as I could throw her.

That's why I ship King Stannis with Queen Sansa, 'cos she'd make up for his people skills. ;)

I really like Daenerys, but I so don't want her to rule over Westeros. She'd make a terrible queen - she really doesn't make very good decisions.

I like a good apocalypse, so winter coming would be awesome. :D

I used to like her, though that has changed a lot, but she really is a terrible ruler. she might have made a good one if she had grown up among smart advisors, maybe seeing a wise king or queen rule in front of her eyes, and then had become queen at a more mature age. But as it is, I just want to take every shred of power away from that woman before she spreads more chaos and destruction around herself.

Zombies are a good end to everything.
