It makes perfect sense to me. With this job, he might need to give up control every now and then. He need someone to take care of him, to help him unwind. I know it's very popular to make Bond the dominant one but to me, he seems like he'd be the one to be dominated. Not constantly but sometimes when things get rougher than rough. So yeah...

I know what you mean about the ending. Those are tough but I think you found the right balance between Bond being Bond, and him opening up a little bit more, to let Q know that he, too, is important...
