Wait a second...this all seems suspiciously like 'Forever Knight.' It was a Canadian vampire show that ran during the mid-ninties and had a huge international online fan following. It was about the adventures of an 800 year old vampire (who was a Belgian crusader knight in his mortal lifetime, and was currently working as a murder detective in Toronto, har har) in his quest to regain his mortality. His vampire father, LaCroix, followed him around trying to stop him and making rather constant sexual innuendo. It was awesome.
