Well, we don't get exposed to foreign languages very much either in our everyday lives. I'm just a language geek who spends too much time in linguistics classes. ;)
I've heard that these social and linguistic codes are supposedly very difficult in Japanese. Apparently there are also different ways of addressing someone? Not just one thing like "Mister", but several versions depending on who you're talking to? Or something like that. I don't know, I don't speak a word of Japanese. :)
Sounds fascinating. oO Somehow this reminds me of something completely different, namely some languages having not only singular and plural, but also a dual form (like Ancient Greek). Ah, languages. *pets*
