I want crazy crossover fic!
Aug. 7th, 2010 03:52 amI need to get this out, so you have to suffer through my rambling, f-list. I just watched The Incredible Hulk. I never got around to watching it earlier, but today I was horribly bored and incapable of reading or doing anything useful, and that's when I realised I still had the movie on my computer. I expected it to be really bad (which it was), so I mainly watched it for Edward Norton. Who disappoints me so often because I don't think he will ever be as good again as he was in American History X. I know it's unfair, because that part was so different from most other roles Norton has played, but it was the first movie I saw him in, so I will always compare. Whatever, this is not about Norton (even though I can't resist the urge to tell you that you should go and watch American History X, if you haven't seen it, because it's a great movie).
I was much surprised when I saw Tim Roth's name in the opening credits, because I had had no clue he was in it. Probably because I never really stalked Tim Roth like I stalk other actors. I was curious. He popped up on screen and was sexy, and so far nothing is surprising. And then ... well, then he went off and was Artemis Entreri. No, seriously, the similarities between his character, Emil Blonsky, and Entreri are so HUGE it wasn't even funny anymore (at least in the first part of the movie, when Blonsky is still sane and not a complete nutcase). This guy is either Entreri's soulmate and true love, or his long-lost father.
- Great fighter who's obsessed with his skills? Check.
- Man past his prime who refuses to acknowledge that he's ageing because he can't deal with the thought that he's slowing down? Check.
- Has quite a reputation, which enables him to ignore authority when he feels like it? Check.
- Is completely obsessive about an opponent who beat him once and vows to defeat said opponent, no matter the cost? Check.
- Is mind-blowingly hot shit? Check.
Okay, the last part is not all that important, I just had to add it. ;)
One might point out that the difference is that Artemis Entreri always stayed halfway sane, no matter how obsessed he was about defeating Drizzt, while Blonsky lost it completely. That's true. That's why I'm only comparing Blonsky in the first half of the movie to Entreri. ;) But there ... the similarities are mind-boggling. I just can't get over it. I want crazy crossover fic, in which modern-day Entreri somehow meets Blonsky and finds out Blonsky is his father or something. Or I want Blonsky to be young Entreri's mentor. Or I want them to meet and have a steaming hot affair, if they manage to get past the inevitable ego clash, that is. ;) it's 4am and my mind
Sorry for the rant, but this is driving me insane and I needed to squee about it. It's just so strange when two completely unrelated fandoms, with completely different backgrounds, give you two characters who are so similar, even if they're from backgrounds.
I want my crazy crossover fic, and I want it now. :D And before I seriously consider writing any shit like that, I should go to sleep. I also just realised that I have no icon for insane ideas, so my too-much-coffee-not-enough-sleep-icon will have to do. ^^
[Some/Most of you might wonder who the hell Artemis Entreri is. R.A.Salvatore's really crappy fantasy books about Drizzt Do'Urden gave us, alongside a lot of shitty writing and shitty plots and shitty characterisation, one of the most amazing characters in the history of fantasy: Drizzt's arch-enemy Artemis Entreri, a rather obsessive, occasionally depressive, and undescribably cool assassin-fighter. That may sound like your average fantasy villain, and the concept is certainly not all that original, but Entreri takes being a BAMF to a new level that makes most fantasy antagonists (I hate to call him a villain) look like little pansies.]
