I grew up with TOS, so I'll always have a soft spot for it. :-) I do believe TNG was a major step forward, however, a much more mature and intelligent series, and DS9 is the best, the darkest and most complex of the bunch. I got lost after that with all the subsequent series. I really couldn't stand the Captain Janeway series. At the time I considered it the Newt Gingrich generation, because it so accurately reflected the neocon philosophy of the time. In fact, each of the series seem to reflect something about what's going on in the US at the time, which is probably why it's been so resilient.
