In a way Lightman is more human than House - he has a daughter whom he loves, a best friend whom he really cares about (and not in the boyish House/Wilson-way), it is mentioned several times that he had love relationships in the past that were, well, loving (even if screwed up) ... So, yeah, there is a certain fluffy core, even if only because of his love for his daughter. All of that doesn't keep him from being a complete badass. You should definitely check it out.
