I need to get this out, so you have to suffer through my rambling, f-list. I just watched The Incredible Hulk. I never got around to watching it earlier, but today I was horribly bored and incapable of reading or doing anything useful, and that's when I realised I still had the movie on my computer. I expected it to be really bad (which it was), so I mainly watched it for Edward Norton. Who disappoints me so often because I don't think he will ever be as good again as he was in American History X. I know it's unfair, because that part was so different from most other roles Norton has played, but it was the first movie I saw him in, so I will always compare. Whatever, this is not about Norton (even though I can't resist the urge to tell you that you should go and watch American History X, if you haven't seen it, because it's a great movie).

I was much surprised when I saw Tim Roth's name in the opening credits, because I had had no clue he was in it. Probably because I never really stalked Tim Roth like I stalk other actors. I was curious. He popped up on screen and was sexy, and so far nothing is surprising. And then ... well, then he went off and was Artemis Entreri. No, seriously, the similarities between his character, Emil Blonsky, and Entreri are so HUGE it wasn't even funny anymore (at least in the first part of the movie, when Blonsky is still sane and not a complete nutcase). This guy is either Entreri's soulmate and true love, or his long-lost father.
- Great fighter who's obsessed with his skills? Check.
- Man past his prime who refuses to acknowledge that he's ageing because he can't deal with the thought that he's slowing down? Check.
- Has quite a reputation, which enables him to ignore authority when he feels like it? Check.
- Is completely obsessive about an opponent who beat him once and vows to defeat said opponent, no matter the cost? Check.
- Is mind-blowingly hot shit? Check.
Okay, the last part is not all that important, I just had to add it. ;)

One might point out that the difference is that Artemis Entreri always stayed halfway sane, no matter how obsessed he was about defeating Drizzt, while Blonsky lost it completely. That's true. That's why I'm only comparing Blonsky in the first half of the movie to Entreri. ;) But there ... the similarities are mind-boggling. I just can't get over it. I want crazy crossover fic, in which modern-day Entreri somehow meets Blonsky and finds out Blonsky is his father or something. Or I want Blonsky to be young Entreri's mentor. Or I want them to meet and have a steaming hot affair, if they manage to get past the inevitable ego clash, that is. ;) it's 4am and my mind

Sorry for the rant, but this is driving me insane and I needed to squee about it. It's just so strange when two completely unrelated fandoms, with completely different backgrounds, give you two characters who are so similar, even if they're from backgrounds.

I want my crazy crossover fic, and I want it now. :D And before I seriously consider writing any shit like that, I should go to sleep. I also just realised that I have no icon for insane ideas, so my too-much-coffee-not-enough-sleep-icon will have to do. ^^

[Some/Most of you might wonder who the hell Artemis Entreri is. R.A.Salvatore's really crappy fantasy books about Drizzt Do'Urden gave us, alongside a lot of shitty writing and shitty plots and shitty characterisation, one of the most amazing characters in the history of fantasy: Drizzt's arch-enemy Artemis Entreri, a rather obsessive, occasionally depressive, and undescribably cool assassin-fighter. That may sound like your average fantasy villain, and the concept is certainly not all that original, but Entreri takes being a BAMF to a new level that makes most fantasy antagonists (I hate to call him a villain) look like little pansies.]

If you get email notifications, you've probably got a copy of my FAILBOT AM FUCKING IDIOT comment. Let's try again, with less fail. *facepalm* nothing to see here...

YOU. YOU. I CAN'T EVEN...

Ok, so first I was all, yay Incredible Hulk, because I had the same reaction - I thought I would hate it, but Edward Norton lured me in, and I ended up having a lot of fun. (And yeah, not an Edward Norton post, but he's awfully fine, isn't he? Although I'll always compare his characters to Eisenheim, since that's where I first saw him.)

And then I was like, wait. WAIT. Is she...is she talking about Forgotten Realms? And then I was like, SHE IS. Because I read like the first eight before I was lured away by other shiny. And I totally always thought Artemis Entreri was so much more interesting than Drizzt.

I love it when two totally unrelated fandoms collide in my head, even if it makes me sad because I know it will never get written. and then sometimes it does, which is why I am in love with [livejournal.com profile] secret_smile right now. And hey, that's what 4am is for.

I am pretty excited by this, but I wonder at fic potential. Because I see both of them being so obsessed with their ... well, their obsessions, to have anything more than the post passing of relationships, of any kind. Other than maybe something mutually using each other with a half way acknowledged sense of it and all fuckedupness. Um. But I still want it.

tl;dr: DUDE. I NOT ONLY SEE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING, I THINK IT IS AWESOME.

Edit because I AM STILL FUCKING IDIOT, MAYBE I SHOULD GET SOME SLEEP AT SOME POINT. ARRGG.

I just love your late-night rambles. :-)

OMFG Ed Norton. And yes, you have been forever spoiled by American History X, a film I absolutely LOVE because he is SO INCREDIBLY HOT IN IT. It's the most buffed he's ever been and it starts with a scene of him fucking, what more could one ask for? But it's totally different from every other film he's done. The first Norton film I saw was of course Primal Fear, when he first made a name for himself by wiping the floor with the pathetic Richard Gere. I knew this man was definitely going to go somewhere. I'm also a big Fight Club fan.

I couldn't wrap my head around him playing The Incredible Hulk, but if Tim Roth is in the movie, too, well then I absolutely have to see it now, don't I?

This picspam made me think of this post. Especially the many mentionings of the word "hot".

Yesss I watched Incredible Hulk the other day as well, and also was mainly for Edward Norton and Tim Roth. *V* Incredibly sexy men, I said!

I completely agree, American History X was an amazing movie. It really hit me hard, that movie. Norton was so convincing in it, plus you get to see him naked. And let's not forget the never-ending important discussion about racism.

Tim Roth, nothing to said. Love him ever since Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction :)

Yeah, I do get email notifications. ;) Don't worry, though. ^^

I didn't have all that much fun with the movie. The beginning was okay, but the last half hour or so was just so incredibly boring. I was like, "oh, yeah, another explosion, cool -.-"

OMFG you know Forgotten Realms, how awesome is that? :D Artemis Entreri is one of my all-time favourite characters, I love him so much. Forgotten Realms was also my first fandom ever, the first fanfics I wrote were about Entreri ... so, I heart him a lot. ;)

I was trying to figure out a way to make it work, but it's hard. If they're not related, the ego-clash would kill one of them. If Blonsky is Entreri's dad, Entreri will hate him for abandoning him as a kid. If they're otherwise related, why should they be so similar? I just can't make it work out (which is why I dislike crossovers, they make no sense), but I want it so badly. DO WANT!

You have no idea how happy I am about your reaction. I didn't expect anyone to give me a reaction other than, "ok, Linn, I have no idea what you're talking about, but please get some sleep." ;D

Sleep? Overrated. :D

I don't. They make me sound like I'm insane. ;)

The problem is not even that he's so hot in it, but that his acting is better than anything else he's ever done. I also love Fight Club, but somehow whenever I watch Fight Club I don't really think of Edward Norton. Maybe because when I first saw Fight Club, I didn't even realise it was Edward Norton (he just didn't look like the guy from American History X ;)).

The movie is crap. Or rather, the first hour is okay, and then it ends in half an hour of special effects and explosions and Hulk and the Abomination beating each other up, and it's incredibly boring. But at least the beginning of the movie is fun.

ooooooh, thanks for the link. :D I could hardly focus on the hotness while I was watching the movie (well, except for the scenes in uniform), because all I could think was, "Why on Earth are you Artemis Entreri's wannabe twin?" ;)

I adore American History X, I've seen it so often I pretty much know it by heart. And I will always compare anything else Norton does to this movie, which is unfair, but I can't help it. ;)

I liked Tim Roth in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, but not to the point of going like, "omfg who is this guy I need to see all his movies!" Maybe because both movies feature so many cool people and so much general coolness that I just didn't focus enough on one of them. And since I haven't seen most other movies Tim Roth has done, I just didn't know him well enough to get really interested in him. But now that I've seen him in Lie To Me, and as Entreri's clone, and liked him in both roles, I might just have to stalk him a little bit.

Nooooo, the Hulk was a good film! *pistols at dawn*

:P

Welp, can't speak to Entreri but Blondky is extremely badass. I'm with you there!

Haha, well, have a good laugh at me.

See, I just went into it expecting nothing, and got a little more than nothing. Of course, once Blonsky became this creepy anti Hulk thing, I could have turned it off. I kept getting distracted by the whole "omg, shirtless Edward, omg heavy breathing Edward, OMFG naked Edward!!!" thing.

What was I talking about?

IKR? I was all "hey! A fan!". Oh, it's been forever since I read them. I actually traded my copies for other books, but the library probably still has some. After a while it started feeling like the same story over and over again, and the other characters didn't have enough interest to keep me reading. Now I'm feeling nostalgic.

Agreed; crossovers...sometimes I think they would be so awesome, but it has to work in my head. I mean, I don't mind it making no general sense, as long as it makes sense within its own little twisted world - but most don't even do that. Although [personal profile] anneka_neko may have just twisted my arm into writing Archy/Johnny/Chris, idek

NO SLEEP IS AWESOME TIMES. I took a look at my flist the other day and this horrible feeling I'd pawned off my insomnia to everyone else.

This last late-night rant of yours reminded me of Max Aue's crazy report re Edgar Rice Burroughs' martian adventures for SS social reform. I can't even begin to imagine what you'd produce if you drunk-posted. ;-D

That's what I mean about being spoiled by American History X. It's completely different from all of Norton's other films, so if it was the first one you saw, you're never going to recognize him.

The Hulk definitely sounds like something I should just wait for when it pops on TV. Even edited and with a zillion commercials so I can switch to something else during them. I remember it flopped pretty badly when it was released. Didn't Ang Lee direct it, of all people??

It was friking awesome. Norton is a really good actor, he should be in more movie! The part where he was stepping on another guy's neck and killing me, OUCH.
Very memorable scene!

I knowww, there were so many kool people in both of the films |D I am a big fan for movies with lots of awesome people haha.

That's the scene everyone remembers about the movie. Another scene that I can't forget is the one where he showers and then stands in front of the mirror, looking at that huge swastika on his chest. His facial expression in that scene are incredible. Acting, he's doing it right. ^^

That's the problem with Tarantino movies - one awesome actor easily gets overlooked. Okay, that didn't happen to Christoph Waltz in IB, but it did happen to many others. And of course Tim Roth was awesome in Reservoir Dogs, but you just notice it less when five people are being awesome and he's one of them. ;) Also, I really like Harvey Keitel (not to the point of stalking him, but I like him), so if anything I focused more on him than on the others. And now I wonder how I could ever NOT have noticed Tim Roth. ;) I fail.

Lol. ^^ It was an okay film right up to the point where it got REALLY stupid and boring. ;)

Blonsky is so badass, it makes my head explode. After realising that he and Entreri could probably not be in the same room for five minutes (ego-clash, rivalry, life-or-death-fight), I'm desperately trying to think of someone else to pair him off with. It's compulsive, I just always think that badass people like that shouldn't stay alone. ;)

I agree, the thing about Norton is, he can play both bad guys and good guys so good ^^

haha Christoph Waltz was awesome in IB, I wish he would be in more movies after seeing him in IB :D Truly amazing performance!

I really like Steve Buscemi's and Michael Madsen's performances in Reservoir Dogs as well ;) Along with Harvey Keitel and Tim Roth, of course.

I really like Tarantino's cast of awesome people in his film. *V* Guy Ritchie's as well~

So, I rewatched Reservoir Dogs last night, and it was the same thing again: Tim Roth was awesome, but he was just one awesome guy among so many others. Yeah, Steve Buscemi was great, too. And I wonder why I never got into Reservoir Dogs slash. Was I blind, the last times I saw the movie? Because I must have been blind to be oblivious to White/ORange. WTF brain?

Haha, true. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of Uma Thurman. I don't dislike her, but I don't find her as amazing as everyone else seems to.

*goes back to reread the rant* It doesn't sound THAT insane, does it?
Don't worry, I won't ever post when drunk. First of all, because I'm never completely drunk. Second, when I'm slightly inebriated (no understatement, I really never get drunk, I'm boring like that), I feel either sick or incredibly tired. So no funny posting then either. You'll have to do with my sober rants, which is probably bad enough.

Exactly. So either I can enjoy his other movies because I don't really think about the fact that he's Norton (that's what happened in Fight Club), or I know before watching the movie that it's Norton and expect him to be amazing, and then I'm disappointed.
I also can't watch Liv Tyler in anything, because i always think of Arwen. ;)

I have actually no idea who directed it. I'm not sure I want to know. ;)

Date: 2010-08-10 12:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
Yeah, but shirtless naked Edward is so disappointing when you have to think of shirtless, naked Edward in American History X. ;)

No need to miss the books. They're so badly written, I don't even know how I made it through them. I always read for the villains/antagonists, because they were the only interesting characters. Entreri, Jarlaxle, the epic awesomeness that was Drizzt's father Zaknafein (right, Salvatore, go and kill off a great character like that after one novel, in order to focus on his boring son -.-), some other drow. But I guess I should be grateful the books were so bad - I wouldn't have started writing fanfic if I hadn't thought that all these neglected side characters needed more love. ;)

I have yet to find crossovers that make sense. Sure, they're fun to play around with in your head, but usually they just turn stupid when they get written. Which is way i keep myself from doing it, no matter how much I want an epic meeting of Mark's characters. ;)

Haha, I do get sleep, but at absurd hours. No sleep can be really fun, though. I had to go somewhere really early on Sunday morning, so I ended up sleeping something like 20 minutes the night before. The world looks and sounds so weird when you don't sleep. ^^

Yes, it does sound that insane. But wonderfully so. ;-D Your sober rants are fine by me, late night or not.

I can't watch Liv Tyler in anything without thinking of Stephen Tyler and Bebe Buell doing the nasty. Not a pretty sight. LOL

It was Ang Lee, whom you can also blame for Brokeback Mountain. ;-D

Yess, Tim Roth was awesome but there were so many other awesome people as well. Same goes for Pulp Fiction and IB. ahahaha I actually heard about Reservoir Dogs from a slash fanart I saw on Deviantart.
and it was Blond/Orange

But White/Orange was so obvious. Why isn't there any Reservoir Dogs slash, damn it.

Uma Thurman was allright, I don't think she was that amazing either..in fact I thought she was kinda rigid with her roles.

Date: 2010-08-11 03:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
I think there is some White/Orange slash out there. AFAIK there is a comm for Tarantino-verse slash, but I haven't bookmarked it. It's not much, but there are some fics. No idea if they're good, I ought to have a look.

Exactly. Rigid is just the right word. I really liked her in The Producers, though, she got that role down so perfectly.

Date: 2010-08-11 03:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
Huh. And here I thought it sounded relatively sane and well-adjusted. ^^

That's even worse. ;)

Right, I knew the name sounded familiar. But why 'blame'? Brokeback Mountain was fun, except for the fact that it was about one hour too long. ;)

Date: 2010-08-11 08:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] deborahkla.livejournal.com
Oh, you're definitely well-adjusted. It was insane but not mal-adjusted. ;-D

I liked Brokeback Mountain, although I agree it was definitely way too long. But almost all my gay male friends absolutely hated it because to them it was the ultimate Mary Sue gay story and made it seem like all gays in the sixties were morose and angsty. So to them it was most definitely a chick-flick, and I'd have to agree, since more straight women like it than gay men! ;-)
