Title: Speculations
Author:
linndechir
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes RPS
Pairing: Mark Strong/Hans Matheson
Rating: PG
Words: 857
Summary: Mark is surprised by Hans’ speculations about their characters’ relationship.
Author’s note: Sorry for not writing anything in such a long time, I’ve been highly uncreative. This is just a bit of shameless fluff to get me back to work. But I’m currently trying to finish several half-written Blackwood/Coward and Mark/Hans fics, so with a bit of luck and discipline I’ll be able to post more soon. ^^ Thanks to
sentbyfools for the feedback. :)
“I think Blackwood and Coward are sleeping with each other.”
Mark almost spat out his orange juice, and was glad he didn’t because costume department would have killed him for ruining Hans’ white shirt. This was not the kind of thing he’d expect a co-actor to say during a harmless little chat in a shooting break. All right, he might have expected it from Robert or Jude, but certainly not from someone as nice, as sweet, as apparently innocent as Hans. Of course he knew that Hans was a grown-up man and by no means as harmless as he looked - no man could be naïve and such a consummate actor - but this was still unlike anything he had come to expect from the shy young man.
“What?” Mark said rather stupidly after quelling a coughing fit.
“Don’t tell me you haven’t thought of that.” Hans sounded surprised, but there was also a hint of impish amusement in his voice. “They don’t care about these restrictive Victorian morals, or about any morals at all. If they wanted to, they wouldn’t let any laws or taboos stop them.”
When they had last discussed their characters’ interaction, they had agreed that Blackwood and Coward had a relatively close relationship and that Blackwood trusted his co-conspirator, but this had not been what Mark had had in mind.
“What makes you think they want to?” he asked, recovering, but still astonished.
“I don’t know, but I have trouble imagining either of them with anyone else. Coward is too obsessed with Blackwood to look at anyone but him, he probably doesn’t even notice women.”
Mark nodded in agreement, but he realised that so far he had thought of Blackwood as a fairly asexual person. He told Hans so, and the thoughtful, but amused look on Hans’ face made him smile a little. Somehow Hans had a special talent of making people feel at ease around him, and Mark knew that their character discussions had, at least on his part, long become a feeble excuse to spend more time with Hans.
“Asexual? Come on, there’s something very sensual about all these rituals, about Blackwood’s mysterious in-league-with-the-devil persona. It’s a bit like witches, or vampires. You said yourself that Blackwood has a touch of Dracula about him. This seductive kind of evil that fascinates people even when they know it shouldn’t … there’s always something erotic about that. And I’m sure Coward was attracted to it.”
Hans’ eyes were gleaming - he always looked so enthusiastic when he talked about acting. He smiled apologetically when he realised that he had just given Mark quite a speech, and about his own character no less. But Mark had to admit that what Hans said actually made a lot of sense, especially when he considered Blackwood’s scene with Holmes in the prison cell.
“You seem to have given this some thought,” he remarked, smiling, and a faint blush crept over Hans’ cheeks.
“I was just trying to figure out why Coward is so fascinated by Blackwood,” Hans replied, hesitating a little. “And there are many very different reasons, of course, but I’m fairly sure that some sort of sexual attraction plays a part in it. And Blackwood would notice that sooner or later …” Hans’ face was all flushed now, he was fighting hard not to stammer. “… and I think he would act on it, if only to tie Coward even more to himself.”
He fell silent and gave Mark a wide-eyed look, then stared down at the untouched coffee cup in his hands. In that moment Mark understood that this had become about much more than just their characters. He found himself looking at Hans’ quivering bottom lip, and the way loose strands kept falling into those blue eyes; he found himself reminded of thoughts he had forced himself to suppress ever since they had first occurred to him.
“I don’t think Blackwood himself would have considered that right away,” Mark said tentatively, and the sudden disappointment on Hans’ face confirmed his suspicions. Mark smiled. “Sometimes it takes a nudge for a man to realise what he really wants.”
Hans looked up again, confused, but also hopeful. Mark wondered how he could not have seen the sweet longing in those eyes before, wondered how he could have ignored his own wishes all this time. He smiled at Hans, and was surprised himself at the surge of joy he felt when Hans smiled back.
“Okay, everyone, break is over!” Guy’s voice tore through the room, and they both looked up as if they had been caught doing something very forbidden - although no one was even paying much attention to them in the general hustle and bustle of the crew.
Hans put down his coffee and straightened his jacket, venturing another shy smile. Mark could see that he was trying to find the right words, and spared him the embarrassment.
“I think we should have another coffee later, when we’re done for today.”
If Hans’ smile was any indication, he would have no trouble playing Coward’s admiration and affection for Blackwood in their next scene.

The fic writing was going along just fine yesterday...until I sort of drifted into DRAWING Blackwood rather than writing about him...It turned out rather well actually, I'll post it on my DA later I think :) I'll continue writing in a moment, and probably abandon it a few minutes later in favor of drawing, I think I might have ADD <___<;

Date: 2010-05-04 07:09 pm (UTC)DILEMMA! I don't know if I should be happy about you drawing Blackwood, or unhappy about you not writing that awesome fic! Please tell me when you've posted the picture, though. :D But don't forget the writing. I'll nag. :D

Date: 2010-05-04 07:20 pm (UTC)Don't worry, I can multi task! Now, you can get not only a crappy picture but a crappy fic as well ;D (Note to self: work on self-esteem.)

Date: 2010-05-05 03:43 pm (UTC)*tries to boost your self-esteem* ^^ I'll definitely have to start working on my fic for the fic exchange tomorrow, and as soon as that's done, I will be a good girl and write angry!top!Nicholas. Yay!
Going to watch Iron Man 2 tonight, but at least I won't be distracted by shipping there ... I only ship Tony Stark with his computer system, and I'm not creative enough to write fic about them. ;)

Date: 2010-05-05 04:43 pm (UTC)Such a good girl! *pat pat* ^___^
I thought Iron Man 2 was great! I know a lot of critics didn't like it, but to hell with them. I was entertained throughout the movie and that's all I care about right now...Tony and his computer is teh shiiiet! <3 You have to look out for the guy that plays a Hammer, he's the actor that plays Zaphod in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and HE IS HILARIOUS! XD

Date: 2010-05-06 01:53 pm (UTC)I liked Iron Man 2, although I definitely preferred the first one. And I was very disappointed at the lack of Tony/computer-slash in part two. :(
Hammer was absolutely hilarious. :D

Date: 2010-05-06 07:30 pm (UTC)Yeah, me too. No there definitely weren't enough of that going on, maybe they thought that Downey had already had his slash role of the year, enough is enough! ;) The speech when he demonstrates the guns/weapons/awesome killing machines was...I laughed my ass of. "It wont just write Odysseus for you...it will read it to you!" LMAO right there.

Date: 2010-05-06 09:17 pm (UTC)Damn, I wanted more Downey-slashiness. I mean, he moves like a dancer in Iron Man, it's incredible. I thought the romance was so forced because Tony Stark is so very obviously gay (okay, bisexual, but I just can't see him in ANY relationship; but I can see him in a relationship with a man more easily than with a woman ... still prefer the computer). And what was up with the red dressing gown? Oh hai Sherlock Holmes?

Date: 2010-05-06 09:47 pm (UTC)Don't we all? ^^ About the romance I too felt like it was "Meh.." and some scenes between RDJ and what's-her-face was just...forced. Haha, I think he must have stolen it XD I know I would...

Date: 2010-05-08 03:40 pm (UTC)It's a pity, because I kinda found him and Pepper adorable in part one, where they were so obviously NOT together, and Tony was so obviously gay. Trying to turn their relationship into more than friendship was just forced.

Date: 2010-05-06 01:57 pm (UTC)Well, from my point of view you're really great at drawing, because I AM a total failure at it. Really, I can't draw at all. And this is not me putting myself down or anything, it's just a sad fact. I have an anti-talent for drawing. ;)

Date: 2010-05-06 09:09 pm (UTC)And GOD that drawing of Harry is awesome! Love it! The shading ... god, his neck and collarbone and stuff are so sexy. In real and on your drawing. (I realised I was obsessed when I saw some random picture of Mark and my first thought was, "I want to nibble on his neck." -.-)

Date: 2010-05-06 09:26 pm (UTC)Thank you thank you!<3 Actually I added the collarbone part myself, it wasn't on the pic I used as reference, but I'm glad you liked it!:D I sat there shading the neck and I went "OOoooh that's one sexy neck right there!"

Date: 2010-05-04 10:00 pm (UTC)From the web-chat on Empire:
"NicholasMai says: Hey Mark, me again! I read in an interview that you speak German rather well. Ever had any ambitions to do a Kristen Scott-Thomas and shoot an entire foreign-languagemovie?? Nicholas. (as a DJ myself, Leftfield's Open Up on Hard Hands is a winner BTW!)
Mark: Well Open Up is one of the great tunes! And I have never had cause to use my German yet, except, bizarrely, when I dubbed Daniel Craig's character in a little known film called Obsession, in German. They needed a German speaker with an English accent, and we were friends, and he suggested me. So I spent a week in a studio in Munich dubbing him."
WE NEED TO FIND IT! *flails some more*

Date: 2010-05-05 03:38 pm (UTC)Riiiight, I remember reading that and thinking "OMFG OMFG OMFG HAVE TO FIND IT OMFG OMFG OMFG!!!" Even if I'll have troubel ignoring Daniel Craig, I dislike him SFM ever since they made him into the worst Bond in history. :/ But maybe he'll be more bearable with Markie's voice.

Date: 2010-05-06 01:56 pm (UTC)Apparently there is some TV documentary in which Mark is the narrator. I feel like watching a few episodes just for his voice.

Date: 2010-05-06 07:40 pm (UTC)I think I saw that show like two days ago; "Who do you think you are?"...but I think I might have missed the whole "OMG IT'S HIM! ! ! !"-thing...sadly...I don't even know why I sat down and watched it.Maybe my subconscious was trying to tell me to hear the sexeh narrator? ;)
no subject
Date: 2010-05-06 09:10 pm (UTC)Right, that's the one. I don't watch TV, so I'd have to find a download somewhere. But I might just do that, I want to hear his voice. How could you watch it and not notice his voice? Or maybe it wasn't him? Apparently not all episodes are narrated by him.

Date: 2010-05-06 09:29 pm (UTC)Then maybe it was someone else this time? Because really, at least SOME PART of my brain should have just kicked the rest of my brain and share the Mark!news =___=
