Exactly! They're both overshadowed by their brothers and have been placed outside of the line of succession - and, yes, less justly so in Stannis' case. Each of them has had to fight for a place of their own (Stannis for Dragonstone, captured from the Targaryens, and Jon for the Wall and the respect of his brothers).
I liked Stannis before ADWD but I just couldn't really get behind him as king. Until he showed up at the Wall toward the end of ASOS I didn't even really see him as much of a candidate because his plot seemed so periforal. I don't think I had any real preference about who ended up on the throne before I got behind Stannis though. I love that your brother is a Greyjoy fan! I hope to meet him one day IN THE DROWNED GOD'S WATERY HALL! Haha. I'm so pleased I got my mother into the books though. :D I ship Jon/EVERYTHING. I can't help it. I don't even know why. So digging the idea of Stannis knighting Jon just to make him shut the hell up about his objections. Stannis would be all: "You will be an asset to my Kingsguard and you will kneel as I tell you to." And Jon's response would be something like: "... *kneels*". XD
