General fandom&fanfic meme. As usual, I blame [livejournal.com profile] sternflammenden.

1. How about a brief introduction of yourself?
Hi, I'm that obsessive person who either doesn't say a word for hours or talks non-stop. I also interrupt conversations to comment on the beauty of this or that grammar rule. I am capable of mentioning Stannis in every conversation, and of slashing anything and anybody. That enough? I hate self-introductions.

2. And what got you into fanfiction to begin with?
Into reading it? Google and LOTR. Into writing it? A fandom with neglected side characters that had great potential and were ignored by the author in favour of the boring heroes (Forgotten Realms).

3. What kind of fanfiction do you like to write?
I love character analysis, and pieces that focus on character interaction. Most of it is shipfic, not gen, but I rarely write PWP. I just love getting into the heads of characters, figure out how they think and feel, their motivations, their goals, their fears, and then find out how they react in the situations I put them in. I suck at writing anything plot-heavy, so I don't do that. Plots are overrated.

4. Do you tend to write the same pairings/characters? Or are you a fandom whore?
Somewhere in between. I've written different characters in most fandoms, but I don't write about everyone. I usually have a group of characters I focus on. ASOIAF is turning me into a fandom whore, though. What the fuck are the Greyjoys doing in my head? I didn't even like them until a few weeks ago. And I ship Stannis with everyone. In most other fandoms I'm very OTPish.

5. What is your most popular fanfic and why do you think people like it so?
Hard to say, considering the number of fandoms I've written in. Probably La musica delle parole, my first (and best) Landa/Hellstrom fic (in Inglourious Basterds fandom). I suppose it's so popular because it was the first ever fic for that pairing in a very young fandom that barely had any fic ... and because I can honestly say that it's pretty good. I think I got Landa IC, and that's anything but easy.

6. Forget other people...what is the fanfic you've written that you're most proud of?
I'm fairly proud of La musica myself. Other than that, I usually switch randomly between loving my fics and hating them, so I wouldn't know. Most of my Landa/Hellstrom fics aren't bad, I guess. I also like the ASOIAF fics I've written so far, even if there aren't many yet.

7. Do you find writing easy? Hard? What are the most difficult aspects of writing?
Most of the time I hate writing while I'm actually doing it. It's not really something enjoyable for me, but more something I need to get done because the result will be enjoyable. I honestly like reading my fics, and I just need to write them first. ;) The most difficult part for me is not writing itself, but getting myself to start writing. I'm a lazy ass and procrastinate.

8. Write a few sentences or so of your favorite pairing or character.
You're kidding me, right? I can't write anything drabble-like ...
Sansa went to a knee, not daring to look up.
"Your Grace." She couldn't keep her voice from trembling.
"My lady." A gruff voice, harsh and with not a hint of warmth in it. "Rise, I will not have my queen kneel for me."
He didn't offer her his hand. She rose and cast a shy look at her king, still struggling with the thought that she was to marry him. He was tall and so lean he seemed almost gaunt, even in armour, nothing like his fat late brother. Nothing like his handsome younger brother either: only a fringe was left of his black hair, his face was hollow, all sharp lines and tense muscles, frowns and scowls. His eyes were frighteningly intense, as piercing as Lord Tywin's, a terrifying determination in them that made her wonder no longer how this man had conquered Westeros against all odds. But they were the same deep, dark blue as Lord Renly's, a warm colour, and she reminded herself that this was not Tywin Lannister, but the man who had defeated him, who had executed both Queen Cersei and King Joffrey, who had avenged her father's, her mother's, her brother's murder, who had found Bran and Rickon and restored Winterfell to them. He did not seem kind, but they said he was just, and she knew she owed him her freedom from the Lannisters.
"I ..." she started, since the king did apparently not mean to break the silence. "I promise I will be a good wife to you, Your Grace."
"Nobody could ever accuse the Starks of not being dutiful," he replied, still as gruffly, but she had the feeling, or just the hope, that it was his attempt at saying something nice. "I know you are not happy about this. No, don't flatter me and pretend otherwise," he cut her short before she could even interrupt."But you have my word that you have nothing to fear now, neither from me nor from others."
Lord Stannis is a hard man, she remembered her father say, it seemed a lifetime ago. But he is a man of honour.
If there was one thing Sansa had learnt since she had left Winterfell, it was that nothing was more deceiving than a man's appearance. She brought a small smile to her lips, and it was not entirely feigned.
"That is more than I dared to hope for in the last months, Your Grace."
He stared at her for a moment, always meeting her eyes, his gaze never straying to her body as other men's did, and merely nodded.

Yeah, I have no idea what this is. I need to post this now before I start writing a huge Stannis/Sansa fic. I love their awkwardness at the beginning.

9. Are there any fanfiction trends/cliches that you're sick of?
So, so many. Mary Sues, but also well written OCs who take up most of the story. Flowery writing (drives me MAD). OOCness, especially tough, gruff characters acting like teenage girls. Love at first sight and similar romance clichés. Slash in which the guy "never was attracted to other men until he met whomever" (I know it can happen IRL, but in fanfic it's overused and dumb).  Purple prose porn that features souls and stars and explosions and other stuff like that. Just, what? I don't know about you, but I don't usually see rainbows and prancing ponies in bed.

10. Are you guilty of any of these? Or have you committed other crimes?
I've written one OC in my entire fanfic life, and he actually served a purpose (and it wasn't in a story that pretended to be about a canon pairing, but was labelled canon character/OC). I used to be guilty of flowery writing before I understood the beauty of simplicity, but I've been working hard on keeping my style more simple. I still use more adverbs than anyone needs. I like adverbs.

11. What was the first fandom you wrote for? Do you continue to like/participate in it?
Forgotten Realms, or more precisely R.A. Salvatore's novels. Don't participate in it anymore. Still have a soft spot for it in my heart (I'll never stop loving the Realms nor D&D in general), but I doubt I'll go back to the fandom any time soon.

12. Name your OTPs or most frequently written pairings/characters and explain what it is about them that you love to write.
This is gonna take a bit...
Forgotten Realms: Artemis/Zaknafein, because they had a lot in common and it's a pity they never got to meet in canon. Also, Gromph/Dantrag, Zaknafein/Drizzt, Rizzen/Dinin (don't hate on my incest pairings), Ryld/Pharaun ...
Inglourious Basterds: Landa/Hellstrom, because they're both magnificent bastards and made for each other. Also, Hellstrom/Stiglitz, Hellstrom/Hicox, Aldo/Stiglitz.
Sherlock Holmes (2009): Blackwood/Coward ... they're evil maniacs trying to take over the world. And they're played by Mark Strong and Hans Matheson, one of whom is brainmeltingly hot and the other one is adorable beyond words.
3:10 to Yuma: Ben/Charlie. Duh, have you seen that movie?
Star Wars: Dooku/Qui-Gon, and I regret nothing.
True Blood: Eric/Godric, because Eric's devotion to Godric is beautiful and because Godric was too awesome for the show. :/
Supernatural: John/Dean, and to a lesser extent Dean/Sam and Dean/Cas.
ASOIAF: this is gonna be fun, I ship too much stuff in this fandom. Stannis/Davos (UST of doom), Stannis/Jon (they're braintwins), Stannis/Sansa (royal OTP), Sandor/Sansa (only as UST), Qarl/Asha (sweet and kinky), Victarion/Asha (wrong and kinky), Robert/Ned (hilarious), Jon/Wall, Jon/Aegon (it makes sense in my headcanon AU in which Aegon takes the black), Daenerys/Victarion's smoking fist, I used to ship Jorah/Daenerys but now I just hope he'll get over her, Roose/Walda and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sternflammenden Roose/everyone (esp. Bethany, Barbrey and Tywin), Ramsay/Reek, Domeric/Lyanna, if not for that Robert/Lyanna (and, because it cracks me up, Stannis/Lyanna ... if only Jon had the looks to be a Baratheon bastard, IT WOULD ALL MAKE SENSE)... Okay, that's enough, there's probably more, but I'm gonna stop now. Ah, one last thing, I'm oddly intrigued by Stannis/Asha and Stannis/Victarion, I don't even know why.

13. What would you call your writing "style"?
Do I have a distinctive style? You tell me, f-list. I try to keep my style as simple as possible because flowery writing is annoying. You need to be a better writer than most of us are to write 2-page-sentences with ridiculous archaic words and make it sound amazing (*waves in the general direction of Thomas Mann and other gods of literature*). Mere mortals like us should be smart enough to keep it simple. ;) Other than that, I'm incapable of writing anything short. I ramble. It sucks.

14. Do you read other people's fanfics? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?
I love reading fanfic, but I rarely find fic about the characters I like, because I often like unpopular characters and pairings. When I do find stuff ... I rarely read het because it mostly squicks me (I don't know why Stannis/Sansa is an exception), and I don't like extremely long fics because they're usually shitty and could be condensed to half their length. Other than that, I have a look at most things and just stop reading if I don't like them.

15. Name one thing you'd LOVE to write but haven't yet.
Plot bunny time!
- Stannis/Davos UST during the Greyjoy rebellion, I want Stannis patching up a wounded Davos because the maesters are busy.
- Stannis/Jon, anything really, but mostly something set when Stannis is King, either visiting Jon at the Wall or with Jon on his Kingsguard (I LOVE that idea, tbh). I just love that pairing and need to spread the love.
- generally that HUGE AU I have in my head in which Renly bends the knee to Stannis and things go differently from there. It includes Stannis/Sansa. ^^ And Stannis having sons.
- Part of me wants to write fic about Victarion and Daenerys, but I won't because it would only serve to kill her off painfully, and I have better things to do than write hate-fic while laughing madly. It'd be awesome, though.
- Rhaegar/Lyanna as pure non-con, rape and mindfuckery. Simply because I despise romantic interpretations of that pairing.
- a whole lot of scenes about young Stannis: his knighting, the siege, the constant humiliations through Robert ... I like torturing Stannis as much as I like giving him a happy ending with Sansa and a bunch of kids. His entire life is like hurt/comfort to me: it sucks, and then it sucks some more, and just when he thought it couldn't get worse the world fucks him over again ... but in the end I want him to have a happy ending. ;)

16. Do you have trouble taking criticism? Or worse yet, do you have a really bloated ego?
I'm okay with criticism when I feel that it's justified. I hate it when people, especially people who are supposed to BETA for me, tell me that my fic is "perfect" because that's just bullshit. I do have trouble taking criticism when I feel that it makes no sense and that people are just being butthurt jerks.

17. When you write is there anything that helps? Music? Quiet room?
Coffee and quiet. Music distracts me because I end up doing nothing, just listening to the music. I love writing in cafés, though, because not being at home keeps me from doing other things.

18. What inspires you?
Mostly talking to other fans. Or rereading/rewatching scenes with my favourite characters/pairings. But mostly rambling and ranting, it always leads to plot bunnies.

19. Lastly, how would you sum up your fanfiction experiences and yourself as a writer?
I love fanfiction and I get kind of butthurt when people criticise fanfic as a whole. Fanfic is writing like any other writing: most of it sucks and is not terribly original, and some of it is great. Criticising fanfic for being fanfic is dumb as hell and makes me think immediately less of a person. Apart from that, I sometimes wonder why the hell I write considering how little I enjoy writing itself, but I suppose I just love the feeling of accomplishment when I'm done writing. Is that normal? Also, this meme is perfect for procrastination. I was supposed to write my exchange fic.

[identity profile] bela0103.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you meme is so full of plot bunnies that I just want to write them all!

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I know how you feel. ^^

And your fic is utterly adorable. <3 Awkward Stannis and adorable Sansa just make my day. Thanks for linking me to it. :)

[identity profile] bela0103.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I thinking of doing more drabble of their wedding and a Roose/Walda fic. I could totally take up a few requests(ideas), It makes me write faster.

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
More fic is always great. ^^

[identity profile] sternflammenden.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I just corrupt people, that's all. I'm a bad influence, and of course, this meme distracted me from more pressing obligations.

I adore this Sansa/Stannis and want to read more. :D

Roose/everyone? Oh god, even I have my limits. Roose/Vargo Hoat. Roose/Ramsay. Nothing really squicks me, but the thought of that is revolting.

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd better feel ashamed of yourself. ^^

Thank you. ^^ There will be more, but only after I'm done with my exchange fics. I need to pretend at least to have some sort of priorities in my life. I just love how awkward Stannis is in the beginning, and how scared Sansa is.

Alright, I was exaggerating a bit. ;) I also say that I ship Stannis/everyone, which is really not true at all. This just reminds me of our troll plot bunnies. Oh, and I still want Roose/cheesy Mary Sue who turns him into a good guy. ^^

[identity profile] sternflammenden.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I hear you on that. But I am so looking forward to reading how she will grow to appreciate him. And awkward!Stannis is very endearing.

I will write something like that one day because it's too fun. I'd actually prefer to have her fail to win him over, and annoy him so much that he has one of his notoriously rare losses of composure.

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He is. I mostly want to write their wedding night. She'll be all scared, he'll be just irritated because he's traumatised by Selyse ("you want to touch me where???? just get it over with! can't you hurry up?") and expects Sansa to hate him. And then she'll be surprised because "wtf, he's actually being gentle and, oh, that felt -nice-". As I said, I mostly ship them because they'll help each other get over their respective issues.

Poor Roose. I just imagine him subtly being a jerk to her, and she doesn't get it and just keeps following him around and tells him how much she loooooves him. ;)

[identity profile] alcanis-ivennil.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Roose/Mary Sue ftw, as logn as he flays her in the end... :D

Stannis/Sansa looks so adorable! Write it pleeease. <3 And some Stannis/Jon?

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Once I'm done with my exchange fics, I will definitely do some Stannis/Sansa, I love that pairing. Stannis/Jon as well, but I still need a good idea for a setting.

[identity profile] alcanis-ivennil.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I made art for my exchange, and my other fic isn't due till January. :D

I keep using "heh"... what is happening to me... O_O

[identity profile] sternflammenden.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I like this a lot. Theraputic shipping for traumatized Westerosi.

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I've ever written clichéd "healing pain through twu wuv" fic. ;)

[identity profile] alcanis-ivennil.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You are into FR and no Artemis/Drizzt or Artemis/Jarlaxle?

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
How could I forget Artemis/Jarlaxle? Silly me. ^^ But I don't like Artemis/Drizzt, mostly because I really don't like Drizzt. And because the pairing is just so cliché "worst enemies actually have a thing for each other", not my cup of tea. ;) But I feel really dumb for forgetting Artemis/Jarlaxle. Was distracted by the epicness that is Artemis/Zaknafein.

[identity profile] alcanis-ivennil.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Artemis but Drizzt is an annoying Gary Stu. Still hope they'll meet again and battle out, this time till death.

[identity profile] oresteia.livejournal.com 2011-10-10 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
LOTR was the first fandom I ever wrote fic for.

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-10-10 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
I never got around to writing for LOTR because there was already so much fic. ;) I only start writing fic when I don't find the fics I want to read. ;)
