GUNF August!

Someone posted a few pictures of August Diehl from the Salt premiere in Berlin, over at
augustdiehl . For those of you who don't watch the community, I just HAD to share this picture ... because August deserves more love. Now I almost want to watch the movie ... except that I really, really don't like Angelina Jolie. Maybe I should just wait a bit and watch August's scene on youtube or so? Apparently he only has a tiny part anyway.

I saw this and thought ... DIETERCHEN!!!!! Well, Dieterchen after Landa stole his pomade and made him smile by giving him a Bösendorfer Grand Imperial.

Definitely one of the best "bitch please"-faces out there.

And possibly my favourite August pic ever:

*runs off to writepossibly part three of La musica delle parole something that might one day become some Landa/Hellstrom-fic that is worth posting*
Oh, right, I need to say one more thing before I go: watch Le concert. Everyone. You know, that French-Russian movie with Mélanie Laurent. Yes, it's slightly cheesy, but it's more than anything else gorgeous, funny, and heart-warming. And I'm usually not into that kind of movie. Not to mention the beautiful music. I think this movie finally made me love violin as much as I ought to. *hunts down a few violin concertos and sonatas*
Hellstrom approves.So does Heydrich.

Date: 2010-09-03 01:38 am (UTC)Mark Simpson is a delight. He's a total renegade in the gay "community," He hates the whole community thing as much as the rest of us. For some reason most of the authors I correspond with regularly online are gay men, mostly in the UK. You'd probably love Mark; he looks like an Eastender thug.
I'll comment separately on the Landa/Hellstrom/Haupsturmführer/Rent Boy fic since YOU'VE ACTUALLY READ AND COMMENTED ON IT!!! HOORAY! You may have noticed that the style in that one was not nearly as florid as "Stille Nacht." My style in general is usually not so florid.
I read fanfics pretty much for two reasons only: the porn, and to scout out young writers. So much of it is so bad that when I find a good one I always give encouragement as well as my beta/editing skills when requested. I love to beta people's English translations from German or Russian because I really enjoy working with the original langauge to ensure that the translation is as close as possible to the original. It hones my editing skills and improves both my Russian and German. But outside of the IB canon, I only read fanfics by writers I like. I now prefer finding original stories with Reich settings, preferably RPFs. Since Machiavelli sent me the swimsuit photo of Rommel I'm lusting after him even more than I already had been, so she very graciously sent me a link to an RPF.
And I'm still trying to find again that crazy slash fic about the British officer with the life-size Heydrich doll. I think he and Max Aue may have been separated at birth.

Date: 2010-09-03 11:08 am (UTC)Yep, I agree, the style in that fic was a lot less florid, and I found that much more enjoyable. I don't have a problem with florid writing in itself (although I think that it works a lot better in German than in English), but I can't stand florid writing in porn. It just all ends up sounding somewhat like purple prose. I'm not talking about your fic here, but about these writers that write porn like sex is some sort of religious/metaphysical/spiritual experience with exploding stars and shit like that. Seriously? I wouldn't want anyone to explode during sex. That sounds positively dangerous. So, yeah, bad fics like that have put me off florid writing in porn forever.
Heh, I rarely read fics for fandoms I don't care about, even if I like the writer. I have yet to find a single fanfic writer who is so amazing that they could make me enjoy a fic about characters I don't even know. Of course I enjoy good writing in fanfic, but I mainly read the fanfics for the characters - because I know that I could find even better writing elsewhere.
.... I don't even want to know ... oO

Date: 2010-09-05 03:19 am (UTC)Will my icon serve as my SS Mark squee? ;-D
Seriously, I replied to your comment before viewing the link, that's why no squee then. But here you go: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
I think these are now officially part of my absolute favorite photos of Mark.
Ah, writing sex. In slash I like it as raw as possible, in het I like it a little more romantic, although I'm not at all adverse to raw het sex. In fact, the raw het fics I like are usually filled with awkward grammar and syntax errors and loads of dirty language (they're usually written by non-native English speakers) and I find the roughness to the writing has a certain amount of charm. It reminds me of the gay collections of the Straight to Hell chapbooks, which are purportedly based on actual experiences.
Yes, I find it difficult, too, to read fanfic about characters I don't even know--unless they're played by a pairing of actors who interest me and written by a writer whose work I enjoy. Like your Blackwood/Coward fics. I haven't even seen the movie yet, but I have read your fics. Now is that silly of me?
oO indeed re the lifesize Heydrich doll story. From what I remember of it, however, it was rather decently written. ;-D

Oh God, grammar and syntax errors in fic are bad enough ... but in porn? Big turn-off. People who are too stupid to get the difference between "its" and "it's" should not write porn. It's doesn't get much unsexier.
I never think it's silly to enjoy fic. ;) And I never think it's silly when people enjoy my fics. I don't know, characters played by actors I love might actually get me interested, yes, but generally I have trouble with fics about characters I don't know. Fanfic usually presupposes some knowledge about the characters, their shared background etc. While that's not a big problem for side characters like Blackwood/Coward, or for a pairing like Landa/Hellstrom with no common canon background, it's a real problem with two characters who have dozens of scenes together. Fics with summaries like "this happens right after the scene in episode X" ... are just not fun to read when you haven't seen the scene. ;)
I repeat: I don't think I want to know. ;)

Date: 2010-09-07 08:07 am (UTC)Good point about the lack of smoking porn in those Mark photos. Still--GUUUHHHNNFFF!
I agree with you about two regular characters in a fandom. I like Hugh Laurie and the character of House, but I almost never watch the show so it makes no sense for me to read fanfic about it. On the other hand, I love Zoi No Miko's slash so much that I've read her Inception fics even though I haven't seen the film yet! Although it certainly helps that I know who's in it.
I see you brought back one of my favorite of your Heydi icons! That one is so you I was sorry to see it disappear for a while.

Date: 2010-09-07 12:51 pm (UTC)Funny, because I've actually seen Inception and still don't want to read fic about it. Partly because most of the fandom ships a pairing I find completely and utterly dull (Eames/Arthur), partly because even for the pairing I'd find interesting (Cobb/Arthur) I'm not sure what kind of fic I'd want to read. Certainly not straightforward porn, but I don't know what else I'd want. It's not a movie that makes me want fic, it's weird.
Heidi, Heidi, deine Welt sind die Berge ... oh fuck, that mental image gives me a headache.
I love the icon, but I prefer to be careful about who I use it with. Don't want to get bitched at by idiots who will think I'm an evil Nazi.

Date: 2010-09-10 02:22 am (UTC)I've only read Cobb/Saito and Saito/Robert, the latter with super-hot Daddy kink which pushes my buttons until they positively break.
I understand about that particular Heydi icon. It just so perfectly fits you, but is probably much better kept for only those of us who know you well. ;-) That's probably my second-favorite photo of him, and I like that you managed to get two icons out of it - especially the loooong-fingered handkink one. ^^

Date: 2010-09-15 03:06 pm (UTC)Heydi ... I will never get rid of the mental images and the matching music ... *cries*
What's not to love about his hands? :D I'm glad there are a few really beautiful pics of him, considering that many other pics are not exactly flattering.

Date: 2010-09-16 08:18 am (UTC)Not to worry. Nariel called me to task for that one and I'm now referring to him as "Reini" like the rest of you. Not as funny & inventive, but less likely to cause brain lesions with accompanying convulsions in my friends.
I'm convinced that this photo is one of the reasons my Hey- Reini doll comes with two pair of hands, the utilitarian pair with the clenched fists and the pair with nice, long, straight fingers. Somehow 3R knew and understood the handkink aspect. ;-)

Date: 2010-09-22 02:49 pm (UTC)How could anyone look at Reini and NOT understand the handkink? ^^

Date: 2010-09-23 12:42 am (UTC)Correct, as always. The handkink is just so key to his appeal. Long fingers, long--you know what I mean. But even if the association weren't true, the fingers alone are too magnificent and I'm sure were more than capable. ;-)
