Someone posted a few pictures of August Diehl from the Salt premiere in Berlin, over at [livejournal.com profile] augustdiehl . For those of you who don't watch the community, I just HAD to share this picture ... because August deserves more love. Now I almost want to watch the movie ... except that I really, really don't like Angelina Jolie. Maybe I should just wait a bit and watch August's scene on youtube or so? Apparently he only has a tiny part anyway.

I saw this and thought ... DIETERCHEN!!!!! Well, Dieterchen after Landa stole his pomade and made him smile by giving him a Bösendorfer Grand Imperial.

Definitely one of the best "bitch please"-faces out there.

And possibly my favourite August pic ever:

*runs off to write possibly part three of La musica delle parole something that might one day become some Landa/Hellstrom-fic that is worth posting*

Oh, right, I need to say one more thing before I go: watch Le concert. Everyone. You know, that French-Russian movie with Mélanie Laurent. Yes, it's slightly cheesy, but it's more than anything else gorgeous, funny, and heart-warming. And I'm usually not into that kind of movie. Not to mention the beautiful music. I think this movie finally made me love violin as much as I ought to. *hunts down a few violin concertos and sonatas*
Hellstrom approves. So does Heydrich.

I think Schellchen would insist that anyone who slaps him around be in SS uniform. Which will all the participants in our SlapFest would make for one very beguiling scenario. We haven't seen either Mark or Liam in SS uniform yet, have we? *rushes to message Machiavelli with more photoshopping requests*

It's funny that you should say that about Dieterchen in "Stille Nacht". That was my first Landa/Hellstrom fic, and Dieterchen in it seems to bear more than a passing resemblance to Dieterchen in parts 1 & 2 of "La Musica delle Parole"! ;-) My Dieterchen is entirely different in the other two stories you mentioned. I especially love the jaded, cynical Dieterchen in "One Evening in Nuremberg". I hope you'll read it and comment on it.

For me the slash pairings are always about the porn, but they do have to make sense. They can't just be randomly thrust together. There's more of that in the slash fics about the Basterds themselves (why Donny & Utivich?) You, Zoi No Miko and Nariel are my favorite slash writers. I won't pump up your ego further by gushing over how much I love your writing. I also love how raw Zoi's stories are, and how authentic the male voices and physical descriptions are. At first I thought she was male because her porn reads like so much of the gay porn written by men. The voices are very authentically straightforward, masculine and raw; there's very little introspection or angst. Mark Simpson and I were recently discussing women reading and writing slash--we met on Facebook, which I've found a wonderful place to meet other published authors. It's really come a long way from the silly little social site it once was. Have you read any of Mark's books? "Anti-Gay" is great. He was on a radio show with Jake Arnott recently, and afterwards I asked him and he very kindly agreed to ask Jake if the mirror scene did indeed appear in the original telecast of the BBC adaptation of "The Long Firm". So let's hope we get an answer to that burning question!

I'm not wild about OCs either, for the very simple reason that they usually aren't as interesting as the characters from canon. And I agree, too many writers don't make any effort to make them so. They're just too absorbed with projecting themselves into their OCs. Now what OC did you write and where is that story? I must know!

Firefly--I'll have to torrent it. Anything that would come up with something as witty and now universally used as "I'll be in my bunk" is well worth watching. And I'm always interested in good female characters. That's one of the reasons I've always preferred Tarantino to Scorsese (whom I value more as a film scholar than as a director, although he has made good films.) Tarantino writes wonderful women, and Scorsese has admitted he could care less about women characters. I find it very ironic that Scorsese finally won his best director oscar for the film that was least like a Scorsese film!

Liam, I don't think so. Mark ... yes, we have seen Mark in SS uniform. I think it was one of his very first movies, he's only in it for three minutes or so (which I haven't seen), he's all young (30-ish), and unfortunately we don't get a good/any look at his boots. Also, unfortunately it was an English movie, so it doesn't even have Mark speaking German. *grumble* Buuut, go here for the pretty pictures of young Mark in SS uniform: http://community.livejournal.com/mark_strong/63544.html

I don't really remember much about the fic, tbh. I just remember that I somehow didn't like the dynamics between Landa and Hellstrom in that fic, even back when I first read it and wasn't so much against my own La musica!Dieterchen. Also, I remember, more clearly than I remember my objections about the characterisation, that your style in that fic was a bit too florid for my taste. Not florid as in bad, but florid as in not my cup of tea. And I'm apparently one of the few people in fandom who actually took the whole "don't like, don't read"-thing to heart, so if I know that someone writes stuff that's not my thing, I don't read it instead of whining about it. ;D Anyway, I can't really give you any intelligent comment on Stille Nacht, because I barely remember details.
As for the young!Dieterchen-fic, I read it yesterday and will leave a comment in a few. I can say already that cynical Dieterchen was what I liked best about that fic.

Well, the porn ... I don't know. Sure, the porn is fun, it's hot, but generally the porn I imagine myself when seeing a hot slash pairing is a lot better than 90% of all written porn. I can't say I read fanfic for porn, except when it's exceptionally well written, or when there's some unusual kink (like my asphyxiation fic, or that amazing fisting fic I linked you to recently). Tbh, I skip porn half the time when I read fanfic. Most porn is, at best, boring, at worst, unsexy because of a bad choice of vocabulary, or general "put A into B"-descriptions. I want angst, and I want introspection, and I want characterisation, and of course I want them to have sex at some point - but unless the sex is amazingly well written, I'll just skim through it. I'm a lot more interested in how two characters get together, why they're attracted to each other, why they decide to sleep with each other even if they shouldn't for whatever reasons ...
What I find a lot hotter than straightforward porn is stuff like innuendos, flirting, hints, descriptions of details like smell (I'm using that example because a friend of mine wrote a rather hot ficlet just about Hani's (Body of Lies) smell) ... And angst. And characterisation. Fic without characterisation is just sad. ;)

Erm, no, never heard of Mark Simpson. But you know I rarely venture outside fandom in these matters. ;) But, of course, I'd LOVE to know if there was an original mirror scene in the BBC adaptation.

Mark Simpson is a delight. He's a total renegade in the gay "community," He hates the whole community thing as much as the rest of us. For some reason most of the authors I correspond with regularly online are gay men, mostly in the UK. You'd probably love Mark; he looks like an Eastender thug.

I'll comment separately on the Landa/Hellstrom/Haupsturmführer/Rent Boy fic since YOU'VE ACTUALLY READ AND COMMENTED ON IT!!! HOORAY! You may have noticed that the style in that one was not nearly as florid as "Stille Nacht." My style in general is usually not so florid.

I read fanfics pretty much for two reasons only: the porn, and to scout out young writers. So much of it is so bad that when I find a good one I always give encouragement as well as my beta/editing skills when requested. I love to beta people's English translations from German or Russian because I really enjoy working with the original langauge to ensure that the translation is as close as possible to the original. It hones my editing skills and improves both my Russian and German. But outside of the IB canon, I only read fanfics by writers I like. I now prefer finding original stories with Reich settings, preferably RPFs. Since Machiavelli sent me the swimsuit photo of Rommel I'm lusting after him even more than I already had been, so she very graciously sent me a link to an RPF.

And I'm still trying to find again that crazy slash fic about the British officer with the life-size Heydrich doll. I think he and Max Aue may have been separated at birth.

What, no squee about Mark Strong in uniform? ;)

Yep, I agree, the style in that fic was a lot less florid, and I found that much more enjoyable. I don't have a problem with florid writing in itself (although I think that it works a lot better in German than in English), but I can't stand florid writing in porn. It just all ends up sounding somewhat like purple prose. I'm not talking about your fic here, but about these writers that write porn like sex is some sort of religious/metaphysical/spiritual experience with exploding stars and shit like that. Seriously? I wouldn't want anyone to explode during sex. That sounds positively dangerous. So, yeah, bad fics like that have put me off florid writing in porn forever.

Heh, I rarely read fics for fandoms I don't care about, even if I like the writer. I have yet to find a single fanfic writer who is so amazing that they could make me enjoy a fic about characters I don't even know. Of course I enjoy good writing in fanfic, but I mainly read the fanfics for the characters - because I know that I could find even better writing elsewhere.

.... I don't even want to know ... oO

Will my icon serve as my SS Mark squee? ;-D

Seriously, I replied to your comment before viewing the link, that's why no squee then. But here you go: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I think these are now officially part of my absolute favorite photos of Mark.

Ah, writing sex. In slash I like it as raw as possible, in het I like it a little more romantic, although I'm not at all adverse to raw het sex. In fact, the raw het fics I like are usually filled with awkward grammar and syntax errors and loads of dirty language (they're usually written by non-native English speakers) and I find the roughness to the writing has a certain amount of charm. It reminds me of the gay collections of the Straight to Hell chapbooks, which are purportedly based on actual experiences.

Yes, I find it difficult, too, to read fanfic about characters I don't even know--unless they're played by a pairing of actors who interest me and written by a writer whose work I enjoy. Like your Blackwood/Coward fics. I haven't even seen the movie yet, but I have read your fics. Now is that silly of me?

oO indeed re the lifesize Heydrich doll story. From what I remember of it, however, it was rather decently written. ;-D

Oh, how Landa would squee about SS Mark ... The ego clash, the overdose of BAMF-ness ... Mhmmm.

I don't think they are my favourite photos of Mark. He doesn't smoke on them. ;)

Oh God, grammar and syntax errors in fic are bad enough ... but in porn? Big turn-off. People who are too stupid to get the difference between "its" and "it's" should not write porn. It's doesn't get much unsexier.

I never think it's silly to enjoy fic. ;) And I never think it's silly when people enjoy my fics. I don't know, characters played by actors I love might actually get me interested, yes, but generally I have trouble with fics about characters I don't know. Fanfic usually presupposes some knowledge about the characters, their shared background etc. While that's not a big problem for side characters like Blackwood/Coward, or for a pairing like Landa/Hellstrom with no common canon background, it's a real problem with two characters who have dozens of scenes together. Fics with summaries like "this happens right after the scene in episode X" ... are just not fun to read when you haven't seen the scene. ;)

I repeat: I don't think I want to know. ;)

Good point about the lack of smoking porn in those Mark photos. Still--GUUUHHHNNFFF!

I agree with you about two regular characters in a fandom. I like Hugh Laurie and the character of House, but I almost never watch the show so it makes no sense for me to read fanfic about it. On the other hand, I love Zoi No Miko's slash so much that I've read her Inception fics even though I haven't seen the film yet! Although it certainly helps that I know who's in it.

I see you brought back one of my favorite of your Heydi icons! That one is so you I was sorry to see it disappear for a while.

I still need to watch Endgame. Apparently Mark is taking smoking porn to a new level in that movie, from the caps I've seen.

Funny, because I've actually seen Inception and still don't want to read fic about it. Partly because most of the fandom ships a pairing I find completely and utterly dull (Eames/Arthur), partly because even for the pairing I'd find interesting (Cobb/Arthur) I'm not sure what kind of fic I'd want to read. Certainly not straightforward porn, but I don't know what else I'd want. It's not a movie that makes me want fic, it's weird.

Heidi, Heidi, deine Welt sind die Berge ... oh fuck, that mental image gives me a headache.
I love the icon, but I prefer to be careful about who I use it with. Don't want to get bitched at by idiots who will think I'm an evil Nazi.

I've only read Cobb/Saito and Saito/Robert, the latter with super-hot Daddy kink which pushes my buttons until they positively break.

I understand about that particular Heydi icon. It just so perfectly fits you, but is probably much better kept for only those of us who know you well. ;-) That's probably my second-favorite photo of him, and I like that you managed to get two icons out of it - especially the loooong-fingered handkink one. ^^

Mhm. Not too enthusiastic about that. But then again, I'm not really enthusiastic about anything right now. ;)

Heydi ... I will never get rid of the mental images and the matching music ... *cries*
What's not to love about his hands? :D I'm glad there are a few really beautiful pics of him, considering that many other pics are not exactly flattering.

Not to worry. Nariel called me to task for that one and I'm now referring to him as "Reini" like the rest of you. Not as funny & inventive, but less likely to cause brain lesions with accompanying convulsions in my friends.

I'm convinced that this photo is one of the reasons my Hey- Reini doll comes with two pair of hands, the utilitarian pair with the clenched fists and the pair with nice, long, straight fingers. Somehow 3R knew and understood the handkink aspect. ;-)

I will have to thank her for that. ;)

How could anyone look at Reini and NOT understand the handkink? ^^

Date: 2010-09-23 12:42 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] deborahkla.livejournal.com

Correct, as always. The handkink is just so key to his appeal. Long fingers, long--you know what I mean. But even if the association weren't true, the fingers alone are too magnificent and I'm sure were more than capable. ;-)

Woah, my reply was too long, here's the rest:

Haha, my OC ... is a funny thing, really. Pretty boy goes by the name of Dyon, and only appeared in a single one-shot I wrote for Forgotten Realms, Coming to Terms (on ff.net). He's a high-class prostitute, and actually he's only there because I needed to figure out how my favourite FR character, Artemis Entreri, became the unrepressed guy I wrote him as in some of my fanfics - very distant and reserved, but not shy or embarrassed about his sexuality - despite the fact that a) he was abused as a child (in canon) and b) he comes from a very conservative society which would consider that it really, really isn't manly to get fucked. Dyon only ever appeared in that one fic, and he wasn't really much of an interesting character there (although people did like him). He really was just this nice, gentle, gorgeous guy who managed to put poor Entreri at ease. The fic was only about Entreri and his thoughts and feelings. I never wrote Dyon again, but I came up with so many stories and ideas for him that, by now, he actually is a really complex character in my mind.
Technically I also write another OC, also in a FR-fic. However, he only appeared in the last chapter of a fic I wrote back then. He was supposed to be really important in the sequel, but the sequel never got written.

Firefly is amazing. Like everyone, I can't believe it got cancelled after one season. It's full of wonderful characters, both male and female. You know that I couldn't care less about female characters and that I'm usually very relieved when there aren't any, so it's really a compliment when I like a female character.

You'll be happy to know that I am now torrenting the entire single season of Firefly. Did you get a chance to download and watch Ich Bin Die Andere? It's worth it for naked Gusti, who has a very cute, soft-looking arsch, although it's a rather crazy movie about a woman with multiple personalities and family secrets and MAJOR daddy issues. Of course Gusti falls in love with her. x-D

From: [identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
I' m happy to hear that, yes. ;) I hope you'll find time to watch it soon, it's worth it. I have yet to find a single person who has seen Firefly and did not love it.

As I said in some other comment: downloaded yes, watched no. I doubt that I'll get around to it before next week. Oh, but btw, I finally got around to watching a couple of episodes of Mad Men. I believe you mentioned the show to me once or twice? And another friend of mine also told me how much she loved it. So far ... yeah, I like it, but I'm not sure how interesting it will still be after a while. The main character looking hot and bored and smoking all the time is of course beautiful eye candy, that helps. ;)

Date: 2010-09-05 03:05 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] deborahkla.livejournal.com

Downloaded--now it's just a matter of finding the time to watch it, although I'm pretty darn curious, so it shouldn't be too long from now.

Mad Men is actually the best television show in America right now. If you have an interest in American culture in the 1960s--and all the upheaval that took place--it does have some intelligent and interesting insights to offer, particularly with regard to the changing role of women. Not to mention that it's beautiful to look at--and not just for the gorgeous John Hamm (who is refreshingly relaxed and articulate in real life). The period detail is so precise that the prop mistress shops regularly at vintage stores in and around LA--she even got the keychain for Don's car, which is perhaps overdoing it, but the careful attention does pay off.

I also like the show because I spent four years as an advertising copywriter and loved it, and the show is set during what's generally acknowledged as the golden age of American advertising, and in fact focuses on some very real campaigns of the period. The show is so cleverly done that even the commercials which appear during the broadcast are tied into advertising concepts and history. In fact, there's one campaign that produces its own mini-mad-men adverts set in the same period, with two sixties ad men discussing how best to sell the product. They're clever, but ironically, they're not good advertising, since it took several of the commercials for me to remember what the product was!

From: [identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
So, any Firefly progress? ;)

I really find the show interesting, exactly because of the period detail (and, yeah, the delicious smoking porn). However, I'm not sure how long I'll stay interested. It's not the kind of show that makes me watch everything there is in just a few days, but more a "one episode a week"-show, I think. ;)

Date: 2010-09-07 08:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] deborahkla.livejournal.com

Nope, it's all downloaded, but I'm too sucked (double-entendres, anyone?) into Gusti now that I've finally gotten The Ninth Day.

Mad Men is practically solid smoking porn. Also cocktail porn, especially martinis. But it's especially period detail porn. I couldn't believe that they went to the trouble to get the right keychain for the year and model of Don's car--and you hardly ever see it.

It's definitely a one-episode-a-week show. You need time to absorb and digest each episode. It's not a series that moves at a rapid clip but you will find yourself sucked into it--especially for John Hamm - GUUUUHHHHNNNFFFF!

Date: 2010-09-07 12:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
OhGod, the Ninth Day. Such a disappointment. The script writer ought to be shot. No one cares about that stupid priest, we want to see more of the Gestapo officer who's not just Gusti and therefore hot, but also a much more interesting character. And the shitty plot, argh. But still worth watching, don't worry.

A friend of mine also recommended ReGenesis to me, mainly because of the possible slash pairing in it. Apparently my shipping Lightman/Loker in Lie to Me convinced her that "arrogant genius with an equally genius, but hero-worshipping boytoy he can kick around" is just my kinda thing. I have yet to watch it, though.

"arrogant genius with an equally genius, but hero-worshipping boytoy he can kick around" - This is ABSOLUTELY just your sort of thing.

I am so behind on my film-watching that it isn't even funny any more. :-(
